Do I Have to Be Ready Before I Start Healing?

Welcome to Part 4 of the 30-Day Healing Series.
In Part 3, we explored why time alone doesn’t heal grief. We discovered that healing isn’t something that simply happens while we wait. It grows through intentional steps taken over time.
That leads us to another question I hear all the time.
Do I have to be ready before I start healing?
If you’re honest, perhaps you’ve said something like this before.
“I know I need help… I’m just not ready.”
“I’ll deal with this when life settles down.”
“Maybe after Christmas.”
“Maybe next year.”
Those thoughts are incredibly common.
And they make perfect sense.
When you’ve experienced deep loss, the idea of facing your grief can feel overwhelming.
It can seem easier to push it aside for another day.
Another week.
Another month.
The problem is that grief rarely waits patiently in the corner until we’re ready.
Instead, it quietly follows us into every part of life.
It affects our relationships.
Our energy.
Our confidence.
Our work.
Our sleep.
Our outlook on the future.
We may not be talking about it, but it’s still influencing us.
One of the biggest misconceptions about healing is believing that it begins with a feeling.
We think one day we’ll wake up and suddenly feel strong enough to face our pain.
We’ll finally have enough courage.
Enough motivation.
Enough emotional energy.
But in my experience, that’s not usually how healing works.
Think about learning to swim.
Very few people ever feel completely ready the first time they step into the water.
If they waited until all fear disappeared, they might never begin.
Confidence doesn’t come before the first lesson.
Confidence grows because of the first lesson.
Healing follows a similar pattern.
We often expect courage to come first.
In reality, courage grows through action.
The first conversation feels difficult.
The first journal entry feels awkward.
The first step toward rebuilding your life feels uncertain.
But each small step makes the next one a little easier.
Over time, those steps begin changing not only your circumstances but also your confidence.
I’ve seen this happen countless times.
People who were convinced they weren’t ready eventually discovered that they didn’t need to be.
They simply needed to begin.
Not with giant leaps.
Not with dramatic changes.
Just one small, intentional decision.
One honest conversation.
One walk around the block.
One prayer.
One lesson.
One day at a time.
That’s one of the reasons I created the 30-Day Healing Experience.
I didn’t create it for people who feel completely ready.
I created it for people who simply want to stop standing still.
People who are willing to take one step, even while they’re still hurting.
Because that’s where healing begins.
Not in certainty.
Not in confidence.
Not in perfect circumstances.
But in willingness.
If you’ve been waiting until you feel ready, let me gently encourage you today.
Maybe you’re waiting for a feeling that isn’t required.
Maybe the only thing you need today isn’t confidence.
Maybe it’s willingness.
Willingness to take one small step.
Willingness to believe your future can still hold hope.
Willingness to let someone walk alongside you.
You don’t have to know what the next year looks like.
You don’t even have to know what next month looks like.
You only need to decide what your next step will be.
Because healing doesn’t begin when you feel ready.
It begins when you’re willing to begin.
If you’re ready to stop waiting for the perfect moment and start taking one intentional step at a time, I’d love to invite you to join the 30-Day Healing Experience.
You don’t have to have it all together.
You don’t have to do it alone.
Just take the next step.
I’ll be here to walk with you.
Keep moving forward.
