Can You Ever Truly Heal After Losing Someone You Love?

Can you ever truly heal after losing someone you love?

The short answer is yes... but healing probably doesn’t mean what you think it means.

When someone you love dies, there can be a fear underneath all the other emotions.

What if I never get over this?

You might look at your life and wonder whether you’ll ever feel genuinely happy again. Whether you’ll ever laugh without feeling guilty. Whether you’ll ever wake up without the loss being the first thing you think about.

And sometimes the idea of “healing” itself can feel uncomfortable.

Because what does healing mean?

Does it mean forgetting them?

Does it mean you’re somehow leaving them behind?

Does it mean reaching a point where their life no longer matters as much to you?

No.

Healing doesn’t require you to erase the person you’ve lost from your story.

It means learning how to carry their memory while continuing to write the rest of yours.

That’s an important distinction.

Because if you believe healing means “getting over” someone, part of you may actually resist moving forward.

You may feel guilty when you have a good day.

You may catch yourself laughing and suddenly wonder whether you should be.

You may start enjoying something again and immediately feel the weight of their absence.

But experiencing joy again doesn’t diminish your love for the person you’ve lost.

Moving forward doesn’t mean moving on from them.

You can miss someone deeply and still build a meaningful life.

Both things can be true.

That’s why one of the most important things you can do in grief is give yourself permission to heal.

Not permission to forget.

Not permission to stop loving.

Permission to live.

And that rarely happens through one enormous breakthrough.

It usually happens gradually.

One conversation.

One decision.

One good day amongst some difficult ones.

One moment when you realise you smiled without forcing it.

One morning when getting out of bed feels slightly easier.

One decision to do something you’ve been avoiding.

These moments may seem insignificant, but they’re not.

They’re signs of movement.

And that’s what healing often looks like.

You aren’t trying to become the person you were before your loss. Your experience has changed you.

The goal is to begin discovering who you can become from here.

That’s also why I’ve created the 30-Day Healing Experience.

Thirty days won’t erase your loss.

That’s not the promise.

Instead, it’s about creating a supported period where you can begin taking intentional steps forward—without rushing yourself or pretending everything is okay.

Because sometimes when you’re grieving, looking at the whole future feels impossible.

So don’t.

Start with today.

Take one step.

Then tomorrow, take another.

And gradually, those steps can begin leading you toward a future you may not be able to see clearly yet.

Can you ever truly heal after losing someone you love?

Yes.

Not by forgetting them.

Not by pretending it didn’t happen.

And not by leaving them behind.

But by learning to carry the love, the memories and even the loss differently as you begin living again.

You don’t have to figure out the rest of your life today.

You only need your next step.

Keep moving forward.
