Why Isn’t Time Healing My Grief?

August 02, 20264 min read

Welcome to Part 3 of the 30-Day Healing Series.

In Part 2, we explored the question, Can you ever truly heal after losing someone you love? We discovered that healing isn’t about forgetting. It’s about learning to carry your loss while rebuilding your life.

Today, I want to tackle one of the most common—and most damaging—beliefs about grief.

Why isn’t time healing my grief?

If you’ve ever asked yourself that question, I want you to know you’re not alone.

In fact, I hear it all the time.

People tell me, “Jeremy, I thought I’d be doing better by now.”

Maybe you’ve said those words yourself.

Maybe you’ve looked at the calendar and realised another birthday has passed.

Another Christmas.

Another anniversary.

Another year.

You expected the pain to fade with time, but instead it still catches you by surprise.

That can be incredibly discouraging.

It can even make you wonder if something is wrong with you.

The truth is, I think we’ve been given some well-meaning but incomplete advice.

We’ve all heard the saying, “Time heals all wounds.”

It’s comforting.

It’s simple.

But it’s not entirely true.

Think about it this way.

If someone breaks their leg and never receives treatment, time alone won’t restore it properly.

The bone may heal incorrectly.

Mobility may be limited.

Pain may continue for years.

Healing requires more than the passing of days.

It requires intentional care.

Our hearts aren’t all that different.

Time gives us space.

It softens the shock.

It allows us to breathe again.

But time, by itself, doesn’t teach us how to process our emotions.

It doesn’t help us deal with guilt.

It doesn’t answer the difficult questions.

It doesn’t rebuild hope.

That’s why some people continue carrying the same pain for years.

Not because they’re weak.

Not because they’re broken.

But because they’ve never been shown a healthy pathway through grief.

Instead, they’ve been surviving.

Trying to stay busy.

Avoiding difficult emotions.

Hoping tomorrow will somehow feel different.

Yet tomorrow arrives looking very much like yesterday.

I want you to hear this carefully.

There is nothing wrong with you because you’re still grieving.

Grief doesn’t operate on a timetable.

There’s no finish line.

No countdown clock.

No point where you suddenly wake up and think, “I’m completely over it.”

Healing is much more personal than that.

It’s a journey.

And every journey requires movement.

This is why I encourage people not to ask, “How much time has passed?”

Instead, ask, “What step am I taking today?”

Because healing is built through intentional choices.

Sometimes that choice is talking to someone you trust.

Sometimes it’s writing down what you’re feeling instead of burying it.

Sometimes it’s giving yourself permission to cry.

Sometimes it’s choosing to make plans again, even when your heart feels hesitant.

Small steps may not feel significant in the moment.

But over time, they begin to reshape your life.

Think about a river carving its way through rock.

It doesn’t happen because of one powerful moment.

It happens because of consistent movement over time.

Healing works the same way.

Small, intentional actions repeated consistently begin changing how you think, how you feel, and how you live.

That’s one of the reasons I created the 30-Day Healing Experience.

Not because I believe thirty days will solve everything.

But because I know that many people simply need a pathway.

One lesson.

One reflection.

One practical action.

One step every day.

When you stop waiting for healing to happen and begin participating in your healing, something changes.

Hope begins to grow.

Confidence begins to return.

You start seeing that life isn’t standing still anymore.

Neither are you.

If you’ve been frustrated because time hasn’t healed your grief, I hope this encourages you.

Maybe the answer isn’t waiting longer.

Maybe the answer is taking the next step.

Because healing isn’t measured by the calendar.

It’s measured by the courage to keep moving forward.

If you’re ready to stop waiting and start taking intentional steps toward healing, I’d love to invite you to join the 30-Day Healing Experience.

You don’t have to figure this out on your own.

Let’s take the next step together.

Keep moving forward.

Next up: Part 4 — “Do I Have to Be Ready Before I Start Healing?”

We’ll explore why waiting until you “feel ready” may be the very thing that’s keeping you stuck.
